Francesca turned to face him. There was something elfish about the boy’s freckle-splashed face, wide mouth, and up-tilted nose. His bright eyes and mop of sun-bleached hair seemed more puppy than pirate. But he glared at her as though she were an embarrassing younger brother he was forced to let tag along.
